SAN FACUNDO - POZO DE LAS OLLAS

Distance: 12 kilometres
Duration: 3-4 hours
Impede: it goes down
Clear difference: 575 m.
Recommended epochs: all the year round except inclemencies

If we could go back several centuries in the time, to the route between San Facundo and Poibueno we would name her " of the monasteries ", so in the recondite valleys that separate both localities paths arose in medieval epoch communities of religious. Nothing stays of San Facundo's monastery (S. X) and scanty they are the vestiges of that of Poibueno (S. The XIIth). Since always, the monks chose a perfect emplacement to find such a longed spiritual peace.
The tour that us one presents is of an extraordinary beauty. It passes for the path of the water course that molded this valley, which we will surprise after the reservoir, with small jumps of water that in many zones it remains virgin. Roe-deer, jabalíes, eagles and otters are alone some of the species that it will be able to discover between an exuberant vegetation that protects the wayfarer of the enclosed heat in full summer. 500 meters before coming to poibueno, the Well of the Pots offers the natural only spectacle with the water as protagonist.
Already to the return in San Facundo, we will be able to enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the people and if the time accompanies to rest placidly in the public fluvial swimming pool that recently has been inaugurated.

The agricultural activity was marking the life of these peoples until in the 19th century the mining industry absorbed everything. The tour departs from the people of Hills of Martin Moro Toledano's Field, declared Good of Cultural Interest with category of Historical Set. We cross the village on the right part up to finding already to the exit a way that arises to the right. We ascend for this way, walking to the right of he laughed. To few meters we are the source San Juliano. The vegetation is very varied, but it predominates over that of euroSiberian type. They abound ploughing, yews, holly hollies, servales, oaks, birches and hazel plantations. We cross the bridge of "Suso", leaving the river to our right. We continue for this way being to our step small cracked. We meet a new bridge that we must cross, that of " The Doves ", happening to walk again along the right margen of the river. This bridge gives us step to the forest of " The Paleiro ", small and thick set of hollies and yews. They are spied from here the beaks of The Catoute (2117m) and Arches of the Water (2058 m), principal elevations of Gistredo's Saw.The valley gets narrow, happening near the Corral of the Mares, former accession prerromano, and, suddenly, there appears before our sight an immense and green plain, of mas of 2 km from length. Enjoying the properties mineromedicinales that assume him to his waters is a tour of great beauty to realize it walking and to contemplate the landscape, vegetation and fauna typical of the zone. This one totally put up signs and conditioned in order that the step is comfortable and sure.
From The Source of the Blond one The Viewing-point of the Gualta is spied, in the northern part, as a hopscotch or romantic castle. In the southern part a part is watched of Nonyield: the neighborhoods of Rio and San Pedro, and to the bottom entreve the tail or head of snake stretched to the Sun. It is the neighborhood of Vega. The impressive Saw of the Guiana stripes the horizon.

The way is ascending softly; we are accompanied by a vegetation composed in his most by young pines of repopulation, heathers and stain someone with oak and birch. Ruta de Peña Infierna

  • Introduction

Peña Infierna or the Pozo of the Górgora is a deep and closed throat, which they have worked the creek of the Górgora, or Strait, and his tributary the Mostruelo, which goes down for the valley of Glaze Them, in a powerful bank of conglomerate that constitutes the base of the coal-bearing areas. It is located in Montealegre's term, Villagatón's municipality.

  • Approximation

The itinerary begins in Montealegre's pueblecito for what in the raise of the port of Apple orchard from The Bierzo, for the Highway A-6, we will take the detour put up signs to Brañuelas. In the immediate crossing we will turn aside for the first one to our right put up signs towards Montealegre, returning almost backward. We can park in the people or in the surrounding areas of the polysport one that stays to approximately 100 m of the road before the entry to the people.

  • Route

In any case we depart from the polysport one for a way that Superior goes for your part and descends up to the near valley. We despise the one that, for our right, follows valley below and that will be for that we will return, and continue for the hillside. Soon the way turns path, recently cleared. On having come to a firebreak we have to promote a section for him and soon a few milestones indicate us where it continues the path. From the hillside it is guessed, but one does not see, the gorge. If we want to approach we can do it for the near hill descending to field slant. Following the cleared path, we will go down to the valley, will raise the roquedo of another slope of the creek of Glaze Them and we will go down again up to the Narrow creek. In this section there are some steps a little compromised for not habitués to the mountain and pass next to the remains of a few mines probably of Roman epoch and for the benefit of the gold, or maybe of iron. First for the left margen and then by the right of the creek it is got down up to finding the best preserved one of all the mines. Following creek below the gorge can be crossed though, in my opinion, with a too high risk for not habitués to the mountain. It is better to ascend a bit for another senderillo, which goes out opposite to the natural bridge that forms a great block, up to a firebreak that we will follow, with a few impressive sights, towards the right up to the immediate hill. We leave the firebreak for a senderillo that takes us up to the water-course and a small hill between leafy oaks. If we descend for the water-course towards our right we can go down to the bottom of the throat, if we continue to the front and descend towards the left side we will come, with a dizzy descent, up to the entry of the gorge next to the dam of water capture and of the small lunchroom. We will continue valley below, for between mining ruins, up to the first creek that goes down for our right. We will rise for a way that goes out to his side and in that, it fences above, it will take us to the point of item. Without stopping and without detours of the route we will use slightly more than two hours in effecting the tour.

  • Other itineraries.

Spending the village, it is possible to continue for track of land towards the bottom of the valley and, in the first crossing, to take the direction fences above. This way we come to a left mine, where we can leave the car or, if the comfort us can, continue with him up to the small lunchroom enabled in the same entry of the gorge.

If the gorge wants to cross the best option, in my opinion, it is to depart from the dam that constitutes the capture of drinkable water for Tower of the Bierzo. For our left side we have to begin the ascension for a senderillo scarcely marked that, in successive projections, leads us to a terrace that crosses part of the gorge to half a height. For her we advance up to penetrating the buttress that delimits the basin of the creek Mostruelo, for a narrow crack. From here, we descend in direction Franc towards the confluence of the rivers, in continuous quiebros, being useful some you veer that they cross the wall. And already we are in the bottom: the darkness and the noise of the water, they make us seem that we are in another world. Only a few meters to our right there is the confluence of the creeks and an impressive block stopping up the riverbed. Though the desires to the throat take off and be crossed down harass, it is necessary to to reject the temptation flatly so we do not have to forget that the water is to drink. And in addition, for other one margin of the throat, we will be able to lower to the bottom again alone a few meters down below wherefrom we are. Over the block we will continue up up to a small waterfall.. We will have been late approximately three quarters of hour.

If we are not accustomed to climbing over the rock, it is better to move back and to enjoy the seen. If we can fall sick with her we can climb over an ash-tree to a terrace on the waterfall and from this one over the rock up up to another covered terrace of big blocks, where there are impressive cracks, and from where we will return on the riverbed. From here, and on a block fixed in full throat we will estimate his more closed part. It leaves for one changes direction, in the highest part of the terrace, on which one has to drag, almost hung on the collapse, to a few caves already at the end of the throat. It is worth continuing upstream under a leafy forest of bank, up to meeting another block constituted in natural bridge and following the described itinerary. In the whole tour we will have used not less than two hours and a half, but it can be great more if we rhapsodize in the emoti

The throat can be crossed of very diverse forms taking advantage of terraces, mantelpieces and you change direction and even entering or going out for the creeks that come together in her.

  • Landscape.

         Observations

This throat is something that is not waited in a place of soft forms and everything in her turns out to be impressive: the vertical walls that seem to be closed in the sky, the semidarkness that it invades everything, the noise of the water that is reflected in the walls.

  • Fauna.

The wild boar abounds and it is possible to see some roe-deer or partridge. There are abundant tracks of hunters, poachers or not.

  • Flora.

There are hollies and hazels. The ivy covers some walls. In the surroundings urces and oaks. Next to the creek flues, ash-trees and some salguera. And, being made notice very sharply, the gorses abound.

  • Risks.

It is a dangerous tour, for the precipices: it is not necessary to to attack without experience not with the wet soil since the rock becomes very slippery. Another additional risk they are the bows that abound in the paths.

It is necessary to to take special worry as the pollution and never forget that the water of the river is to drink.
